Pediatric Cardiomyopathies — Pathophysiology and Diagnostic Workup

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Pediatric cardiomyopathies are a group of conditions that are characterized by ventricular dilatation as seen in dilated cardiomyopathy or ventricular constriction as seen with restrictive cardiomyopathy and constrictive pericarditis. Patients might develop congestive heart failure. Echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging are the main diagnostic modalities for cardiomyopathies in children. Symptomatic treatment is indicated for patients with congestive heart failure while heart transplantation should be offered as early as possible for children diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy.

Integral role of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnostic workup of suspected takotsubo cardiomyopathy: Avoiding misdiagnosis.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), or stress cardiomyopathy, is an increasingly recognized acute but reversible myopathic process affecting the ventricle. Although specific criteria have been published to diagnose this entity, traditionally, coronary angiography has been used to exclude coronary artery disease in this condition. We present a case initially suspected to be TC based on clinical and a...
